BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE 100% HAND PAINTED FLORAL PICKARD 5 PIECE PORCELAIN TEA SET. This is stunningly beautiful antique set in great original condition; an elegant five (5) piece porcelain tea set decorated with 100% hand painted purple chrysanthemums, green leaves and black and gold trim. There was not sufficient space to allow for photos of both sides of the three major pieces, so I will tell you that both sides of each of the three major pieces are basically identical to what is pictured. This set was produced circa 1905 by the Pickard China Company, formerly of Chicago, Illinois.

The hand-painting on this set is just stunning and incredibly colorful. In the Pickard book mentioned below, on plate # 102 on page 117 a pitcher is pictured that appears to be in this same decorating pattern and the pattern is described as Rean Pink Mums. Also, on Plate # 125 this same shape sugar and creamer are pictured and this same shape tea set is pictured in Plate # 839. This set has been in my personal collection since 1995. Please note: Be sure you read the Age and Condition paragraphs below. The underside of the three large pieces of this set are all stamped in light brown overglaze: Hand Painted Pickard China in a circular stamp. According to the book Collectors Encyclopedia of Pickard China by Alan B. Reed this is one of the marks used by the Pickard China Company, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, and was in use there between 1903 and 1905.

This same mark is pictured in this book as Mark 4 on page 71 of this book. All three are also signed with a green underglaze stamp T & V Limoges France. This is the firm that actually produced the porcelain blanks. I also found artists signatures on all three pieces. On both the creamer and the sugar, the signatures read Rean with a stylized R.

This is the signature of Maxwell Rean Klipphahn whose same signature is shown on page 60 of the above Pickard book. On the teapot I found the signature of Vobornik for Franz Vobornik, whose signature is shown in this same book on Page 68.

This is an exquisite set and very beautiful as you can see from the photos! I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.

Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. Our store has many unique and interesting items in several different categories from 35 years of our dealing and collecting antiques and collectables. This set dates to circa 1905.

Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. Everything rings like a bell when I tap it with my ring and I checked each piece over carefully with a blacklight and found no evidence of damage or repair. However, when I originally bought this set, I was told by the dealer that the spout on the creamer had been repaired. If that is the case this is the best repair job on porcelain I have ever seen. If I look closely, I can see some evidence that the gold around the spout has been touched up; it is a slightly different color and sheen. I can also see some other minor evidence of paint touch up on the rim of the teapot, which again was wonderfully well done. The set is just so beautiful and the repair so well done I still bought it and have enjoyed it for almost 25 years. With all that said, the gold all appears to me to be in very near mint condition - see the photos. Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or crazing to any of the porcelain. Anything else you think you see is a reflection in the photos.

Please keep in mind these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. The teapot is about 7.625 (19.4 cm) from the end of the handle to the tip of the spout by about 5 (12.7 cm) in diameter at the widest point and sits about 5 (12.7 cm) off the table at the top of the handle. The creamer is about 4.875 (12.4 cm) from the end of the handle to the tip of the spout by about 4.125 (10.5 cm) in diameter at the widest point and sits about 3.25 (8.3 cm) off the table at the top of the handle.

The sugar is about 6 (15.2 cm) across the handles by about 4.125 (10.5 cm) in diameter at the widest point and sits about 3.875 (9.8 cm) off the table at the top of the handles. About 1 pound 12.875 ounces (824 grams) for the set. On heavier items I will also offer a less expensive option, if available.
