Milwyn Holloway worked for Royal Worcester for 16 years and was tutored in the art of china painting by Worcester's Harry Davis as well as other notable Worcester artists. This porcelain plate with raised gilt borders is a superb example of one-of-a-kind china painting by this artist. The dog is shown in a seated pose in a naturalistic setting, with the sweet inquisitive facial expression typical of the breed.
