A Chinese, blue and white landscape porcelain plaque. The panel painted with landscape with mountainous cliffs in the background, the landscape scene detailed with pavilions, waterfalls and people, inscribed with poem, of the Famous Du Fu on upper left corner, wood framed. For many thousands of years, landscape paintings, or shan shui Hua, have been a major part of Chinese and Japanese art. Ancient Chinese landscape painting began as a way to narrate stories and poems, the first evidence of this art dates back to the Tang Dynasty. According to traditional Chinese beliefs, mountains are considered sacred.

They are the places where the immortals reside and are very close to Heaven, both physically and spiritually. Shan shui paintings are painted using the traditional Five Elements, or wu xing. That is, five elements represent the parts of the natural world: Wood, Fire, Metal, earth, and Water. This beautiful Piece of History was made in 1915 (Year of the Rabbit).
