Chinese bleu de Huetype blue and white porcelain bowl with birds and calligraphy. Bát s c Trung Quc. 3 ½" or 8.75 cm wide and 2 " or 6 cm tall. Late 19th century (Guangxu period).
Sharp, rough edges and orange-peel texture inside. Beautifully-painted underglaze blue decoration depicting birds in a tree, with calligraphic inscription to the other side. Almost certainly intended for export to Vietnam. Most likely this bowl was originally a gaiwan tea bowl with lid and stand. It is a marvellous piece on its own, however.Several frits to rim, which is typical of this porcelain. I must apply this manually.
