Stunning antique soft paste porcelain teapot. Armorial on the side bears what appear to be the letters IJB', possibly the monogram of the previous owner. Fashioned in China for export to Europe. In the 18th century, only the most distinguished and affluent members of European high societies could afford the privilege of owning such wares. This is exactly that kind of quality porcelain, though unfortunately we were not able to convey the light turquoise tint to the porcelain.

But how fashionable is it to serve tea from a teapot that belongs in a museum! The Famille Rose (French: "rose family") group of Chinese porcelain wares are characterized by decoration painted in opaque overglaze rose colours, chiefly shades of pink and carmine.

These colours were known to the Chinese as yangcai ("foreign colours") because they were first introduced from Europe to China in the 17th century, before being adopted for export back abroad. Please pay attention to the heart impressed on the upper part of the handle, and the elegant form and wonderful condition of the lid finial, delicately fashioned in the shape of a blossoming flower. Excellent antique condition, especially considering the age of two and a half centuries. The paint has mostly been preserved, no major damage, and in perfect working condition. Gold gilt has worn off on edge of spout and on the upper part of the flower finial.

Seven small chips on the edge of the rim, very difficult to see when the lid is closed. On the interior of the handle is professionally restored, as the piece is very old.
