A Chinese Qianlong period Blue and White Porcelain Charger 30 cm wide A/F

  

Please read the whole description! On offer is a Chinese Qianlong period (1736 - 1795) Blue and White Porcelain Charger. It is approximately 30 cm long/wide and 3.8 cm tall. Hand-painted with a central medallion and the edges with a floral pattern throughout. Very well executed, with a clear distinction of the centre and edges, as opposed to other examples.

Hand-painted throughout with Cobalt Oxide to create this very familiar and popular blue and white pattern. Condition Report: This charger is in reasonable/fair condition, with some/many blemishes. There are firing faults that have resulted in various surface dents/black spots. There are two hairlines on the base, with one of them quite big (7.5 cm long).

There is a crack of about 4.2 cm(photo 22) on that spot on the upper side. Not sure whether this is a firing fault or a later inflicted damage as well. There are also several lines/crazing and abrasions on the centre of the plate, which are not normally spotted. They are only visible when direct light reflects on them.

It is very hard to capture that with photos. Last, there are several chips on the upper rim in various places.

Some of them are quite noticeable (photo 21). Please see all close up photos. But it cannot be helped as this is an old item. And they don't affect the pattern/motif of this charger. Pieces of this size and age, have normally much more serious damages, including massive cracks(10 - 20 cm long) and nasty repairs. The blue colour has been very well preserved, with almost no fading! Priced attractively for a quick sale. So the asking price reflects the condition, and you shouldn't expect a mint piece for this price tag.
