A substantial 19thC 38cm Canton punch bowl famille rose painted medallion images

  

A handsome shape with an imposing tall presence, mid 19th century Chinese, Canton hand painted famille rose vibrant medallion figural and floral theme imagery punch bowl of generous weight and sublime quality. Not uncommon with quality pieces of the period that suffer damage, this fine example has traces of staple repair holes with traces of remains of rusted staples within the holes, running each side along the clean cracks, this technique is common to 19th century methods and has subsequently had a later, somewhat crude glue to seal the cracks which, all imagery features an honest account of and equally demonstrates that all pieces are tightly intact, it sits very well and whole with a splendid texture, weight and beautiful chime to the porcelain when tapped. Finely constructed with subtlety and skill, an energetic variety of expertly hand painted images, motifs and themes. Wonderful shape, exquisite hand painted figural and floral themes, heavy bowl with 16cm high rising, bold shape with 19thC repair evidence with traces of former rusted staples along later glued cracks.
