Antique 19th C. Porcelain Figurine, Samson et Cie, Meissen style
Fantastic work of a lady in a dress with a shawl or cape in the style of the late 18th century. The finest details of the face, wonderful colours and gold that the dress is decorated with is a work of the highest class. Marked with pseudo-Meissen blue crossed swords marked, indicating Samson ware, dated to the 19th century. Produced by Samson, Edmé et Cie of Paris, figurines such as these bear pseudo marks as Samson began his career by making service and set piece replacements in the late 1830s. At this point in their early history, before Samson became a name in and of itself, such reproductions were their top-of-the-line goods. It is well known that in the midst of the 19th century, the moment came when many Samson replicas surpassed their models. The mark used here would in no way fool a porcelain aficionado that it is Meissen, and so this isn't simply a pale imitation, but an independent work, proudly standing alone with the mark being simply a clear homage. The thumb and index finger on the right hand are damaged, as well as all on the left hand.
The lace on the chest and cuffs of both hands are damaged. Under the magnifying glass you can see the remains of lace that were attached at the connection of the dress and cuffs. Please carefully regard all photos. 22.7 cm in height. Item will be sent fully tracked and insured.
