Antique Chinese Porcelain Brush Pot/Bitong, 11cm high x 9cm diameter. The body of this brush pot is in good condition and the handpainted polychrome decoration is intact. The shape and size is typical of pots intended to hold smaller brushes used in calligraphy and painting by scholars, scribes, etc. The famille rose colour palette and style of the decoration is typical of early to mid-nineteenth century works.

Bought by ancestors of the present owner when they lived in Shanghai from 1890 to 1922, it is believed that this piece dates from the period indicated by the mark.
