Antique French Mantel Clock, Napoleon III, circa 1860. A fine and impressive antique Napoleon III French mantel clock dating to circa 1860, comprising of bronze and ormolu and porcelain. The bronze case, of architectural form, houses the twin train mechanical movement with porcelain dial featuring individual white cartouches housing black hand painted Roman numerals with central hand painted bird.
Beneath the dial, a hand painted porcelain insert depicts a hand painted bird amongst foliage and a butterfly. The clocks drum is flanked by two columns featuring butterflies in flight and surmounted by Corinthian capitals. The whole raised on a chiselled base and surmounted by a domed top surrounded by flambeaux finials.
The twin train eight day mechanical movement is strikes the hours and half on a gong. The pendulum and winding key are present. The mechanisms backplate is signed by the Klaftenberger London (Suppliers of clocks and watches to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert). The mechanism is protected by a door.
40 cm high x 25 cm wide. Overall, the clock is in good condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a good colour. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get'stuck'.
