This very colorful hand painted porcelain box seems to date from the last half of the 19. Century and may have been decorated by one of the many high quality decorating firms that operated in and around Dresden, Germany. The porcelain blanks were likely manufactured by one of the many porcelain makers in this part of Europe. The exterior is hand painted with four reserves depicting people in a landscape surrounded by four more floral painted reserves.

Everything is framed with wonderfully detailed fish scale or feather type pink background color. The interior is hand painted with large multicolored flowers. In very good original condition free from chips, cracks, damages, scratches, alterations or repairs. Mentioned only for the record, there are a few very minor manufacturing imperfections that can only be found under the closest scrutiny.

The darkened heavy gage yellow metal mounts (perhaps brass or bronze) could be polished if desired. The old plaster that holds the mounts in place seems stable and is holding tightly, but it has flaked out in a few places. This minor defect seems almost insignificant. This is a fairly large box to be made of porcelain!
