French 19th Century Napoleon III Oak Mantel Clock, circa 1860. A large antique Victorian mantel clock dating to the 19th century, circa 1860. The stepped oak clock case housing a large Sevres porcelain dial.
The clock face, with exquisite hand painted decoration, features individual white cartouches housing blue hand painted Arabic numerals with outer chapter indicating minute marks. The central medallion with blue floral garlands. The whole protected by a thick bevelled glass door. The 8 day twin train mechanical movement strikes the hours and half on a gong.
The backplate of the movement is stamped by one of the most renowned, important and prolific clock makers of the 19th century, Japy Freres, having won a medal of honour for this particular model of mechanism. The mechanical movement is protected by a hinged wooden door. Complete with winding key and pendulum. 28 cm high x 23 cm wide x 16 cm deep. Overall, the clock is in good condition displaying some signs of age and usage. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get'stuck'.
