Chinese Qianlong Porcelain Custard Cup & Lid, 18th Century, Export, Blue & White

  

This exquisite Chinese porcelain custard cup and lid from the Qianlong period of the 18th century is a beautiful piece made for export. The cup is adorned with delicate flowers and butterflies, and features a moulded fluted section near the base and a crossbanded handle with elegant artemisia terminals. Although the cover is not an original match, it adds charm with its landscape scene and a striking foo dog finial. The set measures 3.5 inches (9 cm) in height to the top of the finial, and the cup has a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm) at the rim. While the cup has a hairline crack that extends down and around a third of the base, and the cover has some rim chips, these imperfections do not detract from its overall appeal as a unique and decorative antique.
