This pendant is absolutely breathtaking. It is crafted from 18K yellow gold, dating from the early to mid-1800s.
The center features a plaque of porcelain. It is hand-painted with a glorious angel and child floating in the night sky. The porcelain is a little aged with divots and a little loss but remains as one full piece.
It has a matte finish, not a high fired finish. The porcelain is mounted in a raised platform. The outside of the platform features black enamel that is in excellent condition, no chips or missing bits to the enamel. The platform is in a closed back setting. It is surrounded by a twisted rope.
There are added adornments to the top and bottom. The top possesses 5 stars that each feature a rose cut diamond and black enamel outline. Just under the stars are an array of graduated in size pearls that are drilled and pinned into place.
To the right and left is a gold floral garland. One side of the garland is reinforced with a wire as photographed in zoom. The bottom features a bloomed gold with fine Etruscan revival wirework.
The pendant - brooch is finished off with a bottom star rosecut diamond and black enamel. The back features a hook as a bail as well as a pin with a C clasp. I was unable to locate any hallmarks but tested and confirmed it to be crafted from 18K solid gold, real pearls and diamonds.I have to add, there is something very special about this pendant/brooch, it has a very mystical feeling to it (but this is my personal opinion)............. Length & Width: 53 mm x 39 mm. Diamonds: 6 rose cut diamonds ranging from 1.25 mm up to 2.75 mm each. Pearls: 3mm down to 2 mm. Porcelain 29 mm x 22 mm.
