FINE ANTIQUE SPODE FELSPAR PORCELAIN HAND PAINTED Trio Cup Saucer C. The listing is for a true trio (coffee cup, tea cup and saucer) of Spode bell-shape with complex handle. Each piece is decorated with ornate gilt details of branches of trailing seaweeds, leaves and beautiful blue cornflowers on soft pale apricot ground. The trio set was made in 1824, the time when felspar porcelain was becoming such a craze in English porcelain. "Felspar" is a type of bone china added to porcelain to create a white and very glassy china. Spode, at the time was the market leader in both the china business and Felspar porcelain. Spode ware in this period were known for their classical shape and elegant design with tasteful decoration and originality.

The decoration of Spode ware in this period was also at its best, as by this point, decoration department was well and truly established by Henry Daniel (of H & R Daniel). All the pieces are in excellent antique condition. They look as if they've never been used; the porcelain is still white with no real sign of usage, pattern and gilding is still bright with hardly any rubbing, no scratches to the pretty apricot ground.
