Rare Chinese Large 18th Century Quail Pattern Dish. Rare chinese blue and white Quail Platter /Dish, 18th century Cica, 1770, finely painted with Quails, three on the ground, among an array of luxuriant plants and reeds and another in flight. The inner border with joo-i-type heads and the outer is a complex design of butterfly, lingzhi,, peony. The dish of canted rectangular in shape. Quails are much admired in China for their courage and are a symbol of it and fighting spirit. Pairs of quail, shuang an, are a homophone for'peace and prosperity. The Quail is also a symbol for peace and harmony between generations living together.
