A very rare and fine quality Worcester Chamberlains lidded vase or urn. It has a bisque glazed putto as the knop to the lid, and the lid is moulded with acanthus leaves and highlighted in gold. The rim has a band of porcelain beads and then there are decorative handles with moulded decoration and further gold work. The body is beautifully painted in the emerging Regency taste for flowers and includes a fabulous large passionflower bloom. The base is of pedestal form with a square base and Greek key variant gilding.
The item dates around 1820 during the final years of the George III period and has a Worcester Chamberlains mark in script to the underside of the lid. The marking of lids was not exclusive to, but certainly a noted feature of the Chamberlains factory. A remarkable rare survivor with beautiful decoration, the Chamberlains factory was later absorbed into Kerr & Bins and subsequently became Royal Worcester. Slight production flaws as typical for it's period with some rough spots to the inner lip of the lid rim.Minor gilding wear in places. Some unevenness to the foot rim from production and a small chip. Two slight chips to the underside of the urn rim. See images for overall presentation, which as you can see is quite superb.
Height: 20 cm (8 inch). Width: 15 cm (6 inch) across rim. Weight: 1390 grams (before packing). If for any reason you are unhappy with your item please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to put things right.
