The porcelain mug features a hand painted named scene of Tintern Abbey when viewed from the South. Tintern Abbey was built in the year 1131 and is located in the county of Monmouthshire, Wales, Great Britain. It was the first Cistercian abbey in Wales and fell into ruin after King Henry VIII introduced the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. The ruin is still a very popular tourist spot on the banks of the Wye River! The monochrome/ en grisaille hand painting is incredible, such a beautiful miniature artwork. The mug was likely produced in the Worcester/Staffordshire area of England.

This style of monochrome topographical scenes was popular during the 18th and very early 19th century. This is a beautiful mug, the porcelain has excellent translucency.
