For your consideration is a Victorian era hand decorated and gilded double handled porcelain Reinhold Schlegelmilch R. Dating to the early 1890s, this piece was hand crafted by R. Prussia, founded by Reinhold Schlegelmilch in what is now Suhl, Germany, who produced high quality and ornate porcelains for export beginning in the 1880s.

This is a stunning example, made when their skill and artistry was exemplary. Standing approximately 9 inches in height, 6 inches from handle to handle, and measuring 5.5 inches in diameter at its widest point, the vase stands on a 4 inch square and scrolled hallmarked base and is crested with a 3 inch undulating and organic foliate opening.

Painted by hand and lavished with heavy gilded enhancements, one side of the vase depicts a stunning bouquet of pink and red roses accented with lush greenery. The opposite side is painted with a pair of roses in full bloom, one light pink, the other dark.

The vase is finished in an elegant pearlescent glaze that captures and, on occasion, refracts light in a myriad of colors. One small surface chip can be found in the gilded crest of the vase on the back side just behind the handle. This has been concealed at some point in time with what appears to be gold leaf and is not immediately noticed or distracting. Otherwise the vase is in exceptional, clean, and remarkable condition for its age of well over a century, free of any additional chips, cracks, prior repairs, or other compromising imperfections.

Expected minor wear and mild loss to the gilding is seen, most notably at the handles, but this is very slight. Wear is commensurate with age and history of gentle well cared for use, so please review the photos as they are a descriptive part of the listing. A gorgeous heirloom quality Prussian vase decorated with accomplished artistic skill.

You are sure to cherish this one for future generations to love. We welcome your questions and are delighted to answer!
